The Jesus Myth | Is Christ a Historical Person?

For your enjoyment and edification, I have created a new article from Barbara G. Walker's fabulous book "Man Made God," which I edited and published. I believe you will really enjoy this fascinating piece, so be sure to check it out!

The Jesus Myth | Is Christ a Historical Person?

Once the Jesus myth is more widely understood as a composite relic of a credulous past, we may be able to go forward toward a more satisfying set of spiritual hopes and insights, and leave behind the simplistic magics of a less enlightened people. We have "modernized" nearly every other aspect of our Western culture. Perhaps it is time to modernize its religion into a form that enlightenment may embrace without insulting its own intelligence.

Pliny, Tacitus and Suetonius: No Proof of Jesus

Pliny, Tacitus and Suetonius: No Proof of Jesus

Like those of the Jewish writer Josephus, the works of the ancient historians Pliny, Suetonius and Tacitus do NOT provide proof that Jesus Christ ever existed as a "historical" character. Regarding these "references," if they were genuine they would no more prove the existence of Jesus Christ than do writings about other gods prove THEIR existence.

Is Christ a clone of Mithra?

Is Christ a clone of Mithra?

In my book 'The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold' appears a series of lists in a popular chapter called 'The Characters.' These lists recite characteristics in common with the Jesus figure of the following gods and godmen: Attis, Buddha, Dionysus, Hercules, Horus, Krishna, Mithra, Prometheus and Zoroaster. One of the gods most obviously related to the origins of Christianity is Mithras or Mithra, the Perso-Roman hybrid whose cultus was widespread around the Mediterranean during the same period Christianity was being formulated.

Is Jesus a Remake of Osiris? | The Lord of Egypt

Is Jesus a Remake of Osiris? | The Lord of Egypt

The dying and resurrected savior god Osiris was worshipped thousands of years before Christ. Is it Osiris's story in the New Testament? In the myth of Osiris is the great teaching god with the twelve disciples who dies and resurrects, millennia before the Christian era. The evidence abundantly points to Jesus Christ as a nearly identical, mythical remake of the highly popular Osiris, whose story was known by millions of pilgrims for thousands of years in precisely the same areas in which the Christian myth arose.

Who is the Virgin Mary? | Moon Goddesses

I've revamped another article for your reading pleasure...

Who is the Virgin Mary? | Moon Goddesses

Who was the Virgin Mary? Was she the Mother of God? As is the case with Jesus Christ himself, the godman's parents, Joseph and Mary, never appear in the contemporary historical record of the time they allegedly existed.

Muslim activist: Juan Williams' fear 'reasonable'

Muslim activist: Juan Williams' fear 'reasonable'

In response to the infamous Juan Williams firing by NPR, my favorite Muslim writer Dr. Zuhdi Jasser is disturbed by the Islamist-appeasing political correctness in this country, as he should be. This coddling of Muslims as if they are fragile and violence-prone imbeciles needs to stop. True "moderate" Muslims like Dr. Jasser need to be supported, while radical front organizations like CAIR need to be investigated and disbanded - why does an organization purporting to represent a mere 1-2 percent of the populace have so much power over American media? Why aren't decent American patriots like Dr. Jasser given the same kind of airtime?

Celebration of Life

An excerpt from my book The Gospel According to Acharya S - enjoy!

Celebration of Life

What is the purpose in life? Is it simply to follow rules and rote that turn people into robots and drones? It is clear that human beings, free from stifling and enslaving ideologies, can become great, exalted and divine. While it is crucial and good to engage in the breaking down of divisive and dangerous beliefs that make human beings less glorious than they truly are, it is also necessary to identify that glory, such that we may all strive to attain to it. The human experience is largely one of extremes, and we have seen how negative extremes have manifested themselves in the human species and in the natural world around them. We have attempted to destroy these detrimental divisions. Now is the time to reveal the beauty and vivacity of the butterfly that emerges when the dead and desiccated cocoon is removed.

Was Krishna Born on December 25th?

Was Krishna Born on December 25th?

In light of his traditional summer, rainy-season birth, the contention made by several writers over the past couple of centuries that Krishna was born on "December 25th" or the winter solstice appears to be a mistake, based on a misdating by older authors. Oddly enough, however, this 'error' may have revealed a mystery for the higher initiates in the Indian religion: To wit, Krishna is a mythical incarnation of the solar deity Vishnu, who is said to "sleep" and then 'rise' at the winter solstice or 'December 25th.'

Homeless Vets need our help!

Homeless Vets need our help!

Maybe instead of building obscene palaces for individual families, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" should construct affordable housing for entire groups of homeless vets? How about establishing support groups within these housing projects so that people can then stay off the streets? Those who can work could be gainfully employed helping to rebuild the nation's infrastructure, including implementing the sustainable energy plan.

World’s oldest observatory found? - National freethought | Examiner.com

World’s oldest observatory found?

Every so often we read exciting headlines proclaiming that the "world's oldest this or that" has been discovered by archaeologists. In 2005, for example, Chinese media declared that the "world's oldest observatory" had been found at Taosi in the Shanxi Province, dating to some 4,100 years ago. Other recently discovered sites have also been pronounced the "world's oldest astronomical observatory," including one in Goseck, Germany, that was founded almost 7,000 years ago and that likewise is astronomically aligned, causing it to be called a "sun temple" as well as the "German Stonehenge."

This very gory film seems to have been put out by ANTI-environmentalists to make those who care about the planet look like depraved terrorists and murderers. WARNING: Very graphic images of violence.

Women wearing Muslim veil and mini shorts

Women wearing Muslim veil and mini shorts

I initially found this video very amusing, because it appeared to be mocking Islamic misogyny. In reality, it's supposed to be a protest of the new French law banning the 'burkha,' which in this case is actually the niqab. Such behavior may have the opposite effect of what it is intended to do, however. Indeed, it may encourage the horrendously oppressed Saudi women, for example, to bare more, as they are already doing online for example.

ZEITGEIST III is on its way!

ZEITGEIST III is on its way!

'Zeitgeist: Moving Forward,' by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society. This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical 'life ground' attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a 'Resource-Based Economy.'

Honor Killing? Dishonor Murder

Honor Killing? Dishonor Murder

This image was inspired by all the beautiful girls and women who have been murdered because of traditions claiming to have something to do with 'honor.' (Hat tip to Pamela Geller for her hard work in putting together the stories and images of these girls and women.)

Ancient Egyptian mystery solved?

Ancient Egyptian mystery solved?

As Christianity possesses its sacramental wine, so too does the Egyptian religion largely focus on a sacred liquid, beer. Numerous verses in the ancient Egyptian holy writings such as the Pyramid Texts, Coffin Texts and Book of the Dead discusses the holy sacrament of beer, in the context of the deceased transitioning to the divine afterlife. For example, in the Pyramid Texts - the oldest of Egyptian religious writings, dating to c. 2350 BCE - there are over 40 references to beer...

Women in Buddhism - National freethought

My latest Examiner article. Please read, comment there and pass around!

Women in Buddhism

In August 2010, the Dalai Lama made a somewhat astonishing statement that he could be replaced in his leadership role by a woman, even though he clarified that she "should be attractive." Ignoring the howls of feminists about that last bit, in his remarks Tibet's exiled spiritual leader did break with long-held traditions of sexism and gender discrimination within Buddhism.

The 2011 Astrotheology Calendar is here!

The 2011 Astrotheology Calendar serves as a basic introduction into the world of astrotheology and solar mythology. In addition to showing lunar phases and astrological signs, this calendar highlights the solstices, equinoxes and fire festivals with a different color for each of the eight relevant days. In our quest to inspire an interest in astrotheology, mythology and archaeoastronomy, we have also provided fascinating information about the astronomical alignments and astrotheological meanings of various archaeological sites and ancient artifacts from around the world.

Who needs men?

Who needs men?

Earlier this year, women became the majority of the workforce for the first time in U.S. history. Most managers are now women too. And for every two men who get a college degree this year, three women will do the same. For years, women's progress has been cast as a struggle for equality. But what if equality isn't the end point? What if modern, postindustrial society is simply better suited to women? A report on the unprecedented role reversal now under way—and its vast cultural consequences...

The Gospel Dates | When Were the Gospels Written?

My newest article...

The Gospel Dates | When Were the Gospels Written?

What are the most accurate dates for the canonical gospels in the New Testament as we have them? Are these texts really the faithful accounts of eyewitnesses written shortly after Jesus's advent? Or does the evidence point to the gospels as anonymous compositions dating to the late second century?
