Biblemania is an Addiction

Biblemania, or the "love of the Bible," is a deliberately contrived, socially acceptable addiction no less destructive to the individual and society as a whole than is heroin. The Bible pushers start in on their victims very young, sometimes before they can read, and insidiously and aggressively peddle their wares so that a child will become addicted to biblical junk for his entire life.

Biblemania is a very tough habit to break - and it's meant to be. In order to create Bible junkies, pushers must make their victims uncomfortable and dis-eased, filling them with an intense self-loathing, so that, broken, they will desire and be desperate for a fix. Bible pushers break their victims, so they need to be fixed.

The biblemaniac is armored against rational criticism of his habit - and he has a whole support system of fellow Bible junkies who will viciously defend his addiction. The biblemaniac is in denial that he has an addiction or that there is anything wrong with it. The biblemaniac's junk consists of sweet and sugary platitudes laced with poison, but his addiction will not allow him to see the poison. The Bible junk is no different than sugar - it may taste good on the surface, but a steady diet of it will kill you. In reality, Bible junk is worse than sugar, as, again, it is laced with poison. And Bible junkies often have no other fare to supplement their poison-filled diet.

Bible addiction is no laughing matter. Not only has it caused extreme pathological behavior in individuals, but it has led to the annihilation of entire cultures and the genocide of whole peoples. And, if the addiction is not addressed, it will lead the world into an Armageddon from which it may never recover, as its most virulent junkies - priests, pastors and politicians - stand by gleefully rubbing their hands, waiting for the biggest rush of their biblemania - the mushroom cloud of destruction.

Fortunately, there are treatments for biblemania. The first step, of course, is to move beyond denial and to recognize the addiction and its harmful and destructive affects on relationships and the quality of life. Next, we must find "food for the soul" that is more palatable and healthful, including appreciating the beauty of creation and humankind's enormous capacity for love.

«Heroin is opium for the people».

Karl Marx said that. He was wrong about a lot of things, but not that.

Did you mean "Religion is the opium of the people?"

Great piece on "An Inconvenient Truth."

This is another breakthrough post -- bravo!!! I was just thinking about this very topic a couple of nights ago. I was having dinner with my mother (a painful undertaking) and she was browbeating me about church. She keeps encouraging me to join a Right Wing neo-Nazi church around the corner from my house. Yet, she is the same person who bought a Y2K survival kit and pulled her life savings out of the bank and gave it to a "Christian" con artist who completely swindled her. This was all done because some TV evangelist said the banks were going to crash on January 1, 2000. So, the point being is there are individuals out there who have craftily learned how to extract revenue and manipulate Bible Junkies. The GOP has particularly mastered this art with incredible success, much to the joy of industrial barons who profit from the Republican regime. Oh, and the second point: Why should I have any respect for what my mom says about religion when she gave her entire life savings to a con artist? "But I prayed about it, and I even prayed with the guy over the phone." I really don't know whether to laugh or cry.

there are many errors on this site on the top of my head the jews didnt kill gods the romans did

the romans convinced the jews jesus was bad news.

Yes, the "many errors on this site" would be contained in comments such as yours. The Bible itself blames "the Jews" for Christ's demise, so apparently you don't read the Bible. Also, throughout history Jews have been called "Christkillers" and have themselves been killed for this purported guilt. Apparently you don't know history either.

It is rather pointless to argue about fictional characters in any event.

My mom has a bible addiction, i wish she could break free, but i guess she never will. i don't know why she has it in the first place, the bible is boring, stupid, fake, like Acharya said "a rehash of older myths from around the world"

I'm an avid reader of the Bible. In particular I read the Anchor Bible series to learn more about the text transmission and nuances of translation. It is helpful to keep in mind that reading scripture is a modern past time.

I kind of like the bible in that it is simply another take on the astrological anomolies contrived by primitave man in trying to understand things that have never been understood....In short, it's a mythological fairy tale book. Great for door stoppers and choking mules!
