The Josephus Forgery about Jesus

The Jesus Forgery: Josephus Untangled

An oldie but goodie of mine...

For centuries a brief paragraph in "Antiquities of the Jews" by the Jewish historian Josephus (37-100 CE) has been cited as proof of the existence of Jesus Christ. Is it really? Or is it a forgery?

What about all references found in the books from the School of Valentinian ? Valentinus (also spelled Valentinius) (c.100 - c.160) http://www.gnosis.org/library/valentinus/Valentinian_Writings.htm

References to what? Jesus? The Gnostics of the second century were very much involved in the creation of Christianity - and the Christ figure - so it's quite understandable they would have references to him. Gnostics, however, generally defined "Christ" as an allegorical concept. In fact, the Docetic Gnostics denied Christ's physical manifestation.

Allegorical books written in the second century do not serve as "proof" that God came to Earth during the first century as a Jewish rabblerouser.

The forgery allegation is simply an overstatement of a common textual issue of interpolation.
