The Bible is Repulsive

This is a great video that everyone should watch immediately! The fact is that the Bible is repulsive, and this bizarre psychosis that not only prevents people from seeing this fact but actually allows them to view the Bible as something "sacred" and "holy" needs to be treated as a collective mental illness that is destroying the world.

The people who created this video are wonderful.

Proving the Bible is Repulsive

Yeah, this is a classic. And SO true. It's about time those idiots woke up.

Comments from theists on this video range from "taken out of context" to "new covenant has replaced the old".

They read like a loving mother defending her serial killer son. You can almost hear the blinkers coming down and snapping shut.

What will it take to convince these people?

"...a loving mother defending her serial killer son" - very well put!

It's a form of dementia, without a doubt. But the human being needs something sacred and holy, obviously. We need to replace it with a sense that the Book of Life is the real "Bible." The Old Bible is the Book of Death.

The childish excuses that it's the Old Testament, not the New, are quite unfounded, as this video itself proves. First of all, does that mean we are not bound to obey the 10 Commandments, since they are in the Old Testament? Well, Jesus himself says we should honor the Commandments, so we really need to start putting to death everyone who works on the sabbath.

Next, the happy upholding of slavery and the extreme sexism are in the New Testament as well. But the problem is that this puerile defenders of the faith don't read the Bible - that's always been the problem. These are not rocket scientists. They are brainwashed into believing something is "good," when it isn't. Somebody needs to state that fact quite loudly - all of us, in fact.

Thanks, PQ. I've been beating this thankless drum for a long time...

Yeah, okay, I'd say to them, I've gone back to the Greek and the Hebrew - have you? It makes no difference; it's vile. And you are following and contributing to something vile. (You, of course, meaning them.)

Ah, the Greek word "miseo" will provide just one small example among many hundreds to thousands of how apologists must resort to sleight of hand to justify these putrid texts. The word "miseo" is used in the scriptures where Jesus exhorts his followers to "hate" their mothers and fathers {Lk. 14:26). Apologists claim it doesn't exactly mean "hate," even though it is rendered as such in the majority of English translations, including the precious King James Version, held up high by evangelists as the only truly inspired English translation. Other versions that translate the word "miseo" in this scripture as "hate" include the New International Version, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Version, New King James Version, American Standard Version, Revised Standard Version, Young's Literal Translation, Darby Translation, etc. The Latin translation by St. Jerome, the Vulgate, uses the word "odit," which means "hate," as in "odius." The authoritative Strong's Biblical Concordance defines "miseo" as "to hate, pursue with hatred, detest."

As we can see, the apologist's remarks are simply wrong, even though they can hold up such dishonestly obfuscating translations as the NLT, which translates the phrase "does not hate" as "you must love me more." Sorry, but even in modern Greek the word "miso" means TO HATE. So, you can tell the obfuscators to stick that in their pipe and smoke it! It is precisely such mendacity by bibliophiles that causes the less credulous among us to be skeptical if not suspicious of the so-called holy scriptures.

I asked my brother, a moderate Christian, to view the video and render an opinion. Of course, a hardline Christian would have never watched it -- he or she would have just said it's a "tool of Satan."

My brother's response is exactly the reason why I don't debate Christians -- because I always know exactly what they are going to say.

From my brother:

"Many of those Old Testament verses, particularly the punishments for breaking those laws were intended for the Jews during the time in which they were written. It was very critical to God that the Jews remain 'pure' during that time of their history, as they were the people He chose to reveal himself to the world through.

The reference to the words of Jesus about dismembering oneself is laughable. He was engaging in hyperbole to show the importance of abstaining from sin and removing whatever it is in your life that causes you to stumble. However, obviously, the producer of the video (a very bitter man) thought most viewers would not know this."

Well, my brother is a great guy, and I love him dearly. The point being is that even moderates will defend the Holy Book to the bitter end.

My problem is with the Fundamentalist Christians' self-fullfilling and engineered prophesy of global destruction. By promoting war, actively opposing environmental protections, supporting the Zionists, inciting the Muslims, and a host of other transgressions, the Conservative Christians are actually creating the world they dream of -- a dark, lifeless rock floating through space. This is an outrage to me because it is not fair to my two wonderful daughters or Acharya's beautiful son. When the Christian's make war on our Planet to trigger the return of Christ (the great rescue mission), they also make war on my children. And in addition to the War Against the Environment, War Against Muslims, War Against Iraq, there is also the War Against Gays, the War Against Women's Rights, the War Against Separation of Church and State, etc.. My gosh, with all this warmongering, these people must be exhausted.

Oh yes, I am bitter and angry. I thank the host of this blog for allowing me to vent.

How right you are, Goose! You see, this is the whole problem with bibliophilia. The people who are pathological engaged in bibliophilia always feel the need to make ad hominem attacks on those of us who are not thus inclined. It wasn't enough for your brother to rationalize his belief in the Bible, he had to personally attack the individual who quite astutely showed the Bible's ugly flaws. And this need to insult the nonbelievers is precisely the problem with the dis-ease of bibliophila.

I'm sorry, but no amount of insults or abuse will make me into a bibliophile. I cannot overlook its grotesque flaws, no matter how much justification or "rationalization" is thrown my way. Those who can are purely and simply brainwashed. Or, more aptly, braindirtied.

Acharya S said...

I should add, Goose, that the reason bibliophiles feel they can insult and demean others is because the Bible, of course, teaches that we are all born-in-sin pieces of shit unworthy of dignity and respect. The Bible, you see, should be held up sacred and holy above and beyond human life, which, although it is claimed to be sacred, is actually despised and vilified by bibliophiles.

This braindirtying that we are all born-in-sin pieces of shit is frankly not only child abuse - as it is quite often drilled into a poor, sweet and innocent little one's head - but human abuse of the highest magnitude.

BTW, Goose, I take it your brother was referring to Jesus's exhortation for people to become eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven when he said it was "laughable" and:

"He was engaging in hyperbole to show the importance of abstaining from sin and removing whatever it is in your life that causes you to stumble."

Actually, that's sheer nonsense taught by the crafty preachers to those who do not know history very well - not to mention that it goes against the idea that the Buybull is supposed to be literal!

First of all, there were "eunuchs for the kingdom" at that time. It was common enough that the early Church father Origen actually castrated himself. So, I guess since he understood Jesus literally, he was a better Christian than those who are trying to palm off the symbolic flotsam above? Moreover, there was the very influential cult of Cybele, in which the priests were expected to be eunuchs - it is to these fervent religionists of whatever stripe that Jesus is addressing these remarks. So, yes, he very much meant it literally.

What is "laughable" is the extremely poor knowledge of history that comes along with bibliophilia, as well as the astounding arrogance and smugness, despite such evident ignorance.

Acharya S said...

Arrgh. I see I made a typo above with the word "odious."

BTW, regarding Origen and castration, I see that our favorite deranged apologist has written about this issue (of course), making up all sorts of bogus excuses, first that we aren't sure what "it" is, as in "let him receive it," so we don't know that Jesus meant castration. Finally, the Bible junkie and pusher says, to the effect, "Well, if it made Origen a better person, then cutting off his nuts was just fine and dandy. It's better to be ball-less than to miss out on the kingdom of Heaven!"

Well, gee, there's no evidence that that kingdom even exists, and by whose definition is "heaven" a place were a bunch of ball-less men are running around? Not my idea of heaven, thank you very much.

You see the sort of pathological mumbo-jumbo resorted to in order to jusify one's Bible addiction.

Wow, PQhost, it sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I would be interested in joining a support group for recovering Christians, if such a group exists. Even though I was on to this charade at age 15 it took me until age 37 to finally resign as an ordained lay leader, and now, nine years later, I'm still sorting through it. I stumbled on Acharya a few years ago, and her writings, videos, and interviews have been the best therapy. When I discovered her website, I said, "Finally, someone has it dead on." Amazingly, you can get pieces of the Great Lie from just watching the National Geographic, Science, or Discovery channels, but Acharya S does the best job of tying it all together. I really have no problem with religions, until it gets to the point where people are using them to harm others, the Planet, and our future. Then I have a BIG F**KING problem with it. When religion is used to subjugate women, disrespect people who are different, etc.. then there is a real serious problem. I still believe there is some sort of supernatural element in the Universe, and I even still pray sometimes, but I am convinced that ALL religion is man-made. Christianity is a Greek-Roman religion, which borrows heavily from Jewish and other traditions, going all the way back to early sun worship. Once a person understands that, it is easy to move on.

I have one thing I praise Romanians for : THE CURSING OF ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH RELIGION, GOD, SAINTS, CHURCHES, ETC... .
I have not found another language to curse at God, Priests, Churches, Christs!!!, (not just one but many) and even curse the church candles.
So much fun.
They even twisted greek holy words like ...agios = saint , holy, to a new meaning agios in romanian means fart!!!
It proved to me that romanians , long time ago , knew the kind of crap , the church was building.

Yes, I have read the Koran - in fact, my webpage on quotes on Islam ranks no. 1 in the world for a number of search terms on Google, including "quotes from the Koran."

No, I don't have any plans to take on that dangerous behemoth! There are many others who are more capable and suited for that task - although I do make sure that people are aware that there are many problems with Islam.

I was on the Richard Syrett show in Toronto a couple of times.

people say it is taken out of context and that the rules have changed since the old times. Well the bible says the law of god is PERFECT thus how could it be taken incorrectly? I mean wouldn't perfect statement of the rules do so in a way that is UNMISTAKABLE!? On Top of this it says the law of god is eternal, Thus it could not hold us to different standards. The rules of the days of jesus should still uphold by today. This video literally changed my entire thinking. it really bothers me.

Thank you for proving the point of this blog post - the Bible is indeed repulsive. I will never succumb to the spiritual terrorist you portray as Jesus.
