Fitness guru Jack LaLanne dies at 96
I had been thinking about Jack LaLanne for some time now, so I am very sad to hear this news of his passing at the age of 96. Most people over the age of 40 or so in the U.S. have probably heard of Jack LaLanne. Those of us even older practically grew up with him, at least in the media, although I personally was too young to have watched his TV show, which was highly popular in the 1950s.

Whatever one takes away from "Virgin Mother Goddesses of Antiquity" by Dr. Marguerite Rigoglioso, the book certainly is a tour de force. Phrases like "parthenogenetic creator deity" and "virgin creatrix" readily convey the concept of a virgin mother from remotest times, like a splash of cold water waking up our long dormant female spiritual traditions. There can be no doubt that the virgin-mother concept did not originate with Christianity and that the idea of the Virgin Mary as a historical personage appears unsupportable from this and much more evidence.

Now that it's the New Year of 2011, time to start bringing up 2012, which is widely touted as a year that will bring about great changes. The nature of those changes is debatable, as some claim 2012 will signal the "end of the world," while Maya elders say that's not what it means at all.
